I was in the gym this morning when I received a phone call from a lady I’ve never actually met before, who knows I like to get out and take the odd photo, informing me that the old wreck of the Ispolen brig was exposed more than ever today & that it might be worth photographing.
So, still sweating, I bundled into my car to grab my camera & get down the beach for some shots before the tide came in & hid her again (the ship that is, not the lady on the phone).
In case you’re interested….the Ispolen ran aground off Sheringham on 23.01.1897 during a massive storm, she was carrying ice from Norway. The town’s Henry Ramey Upcher Lifeboat launched into mountainous seas & managed to rescue the crew of eight. The wreck has lain preserved by the sand ever since and only occasionally is she visible above the sand when certain weather conditions scour the sand away to reveal her ribs.
