It’s been an interesting few days here on the North Norfolk coast with the storm surge & rough weather. On Friday night we headed to the cliffs at Cromer to watch the mighty power of the sea and we weren’t disappointed!
The footage of the huge waves during the night are a bit grainy & rough – there wasn’t much light for filming and I just used my iphone as I didn’t want to get my cameras covered in salt spray yet again (especially after literally just getting them back from a service & shutter replacement ready for the 2017 wedding season).
The next morning I headed to Cromer with the drone at daybreak to get some aerial shots of the waves and the damage the surge had done. So sad to see the remains of the smashed up beach huts after seeing a similar scene at the previous storm surge only 3 years ago.
The footage has received amazing attention being shown on the BBC national news, BBC Look East News (including an interview) & ITN plus I’ve had requests for footage for a program called Winter Road Rescue on Channel 5, BBC’s Inside Out and been interviewed live on BBC Radio Norfolk, yesterday was pretty hectic!
The video on my personal Facebook page has (at this point in time) received over 186,000 views and 3500 shares, such unexpected and amazing publicity, it really has been a great start to the year!
Here’s the edited video (be sure to click on the HD symbol bottom right for the best viewing experience and turn on your sound for some soothing music!)…
For more examples of my aerial video footage using the drone and some other commercial videos I have made scroll through my Vimeo page.

So this is Part 3 three of my round up of 2016, choosing some of my favourite shots of last year and in this post it’s all about the weddings I photographed in beautiful Norfolk in 2016. We have so many stunning wedding venues in Norfolk (and Suffolk!), at the bottom of this post I will list all of the Norfolk & Suffolk wedding venues featured in the wedding photos below rather than sprinkling them throughout the post. You’ve come here to look at the pretty pictures (and I’m really tired today!) so I won’t ramble on too much, I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.
Here’s a few of my faves of last year…
This is Part 2 of my three part round up of last year’s photography work and in this blog post I’ve picked a few (more than a few actually!) of my favourite shots from the commercial and event photography I’ve been commissioned to shoot around Norfolk.
Probably the highlight for me, due to my love of boats & the water, was being hired to photograph for Oyster Yachts, one of the world’s most respected luxury ocean yacht builders. The level of detail and quality of these boats is absolutely second to none so being able to not only see & photograph them being hand-built but then sailed by the CEO was a real honour. Being a yachting photographer has long been an ambition of mine so this is a great start and to have one of my images as the first shot on their homepage means a great deal to me.
So that was 2016 and this is a round up of how the year panned out for me & my photography. While it may have been a pretty dodgy year in many respects (Brexit, Tr*mp & the passing of many talented actors, musicians and local friends) my partner, Leanne, pointed out to me last night that it’s actually been an incredible year for us with many adventures around the British Isles and a full and varied year of photography for my business so I will try to distill it down into two blog posts.
There is so much I’d like to include that I found it a bit overwhelming as to how I would order it, rather than breaking it down chronologically I will split it into three posts:
1) Press coverage and Personal work.
2) Commercial work & Events.
3) Weddings & Lifestyle portraits.
So here goes Part 1…the year started well for me with the news that I had won two prizes in a national competition for aerial photography with two aerial images of North Norfolk which got a full page in the Eastern Daily Press…
As a professional property photographer I’ve been lucky enough to photograph many incredible properties for Wilson Hotels and Wilson Development Ltd over the past few years including Byfords, The Pigs, The Assembly House and The Dialhouse. All are finished to a very high standard and beautifully decorated, furnished & styled.
When Iain called me to ask if I would photograph three new holiday apartments they have developed in Sheringham I knew the interiors were going to be stunning but when I saw them they were better than I even imagined.
Beautifully decorated and styled by the very talented interior designer Annabel Grey, these are three double occupancy dream getaways by the sea. And when I say by the sea, they are literally metres from the sea and all with off street parking which is going to be very handy in the Summer!
When I went to shoot the interiors last week it was a grey, stormy day (good for evenly lit interiors, not so for exteriors) so rather than show a disappointing grey view from the windows I will wait to show the location & exteriors in another blog post in the near future.
The first few shots are of Apartment 1, as with all of my interiors photography I like to capture the feel of the property through a range of wide-angle shots and detail shots of the features which make each place unique, these holiday lets are certainly rich in details…
In honour of the forthcoming Remembrance Sunday in which we remember and support all those that have given so much for our country (both historically and more recently) I will donate the scanning fee (£5 per scan) of any old prints or slides scanned between now & the 13th November to the Royal British Legion.
The photos do not have to be military-based but if you have any old photos you’ve been meaning to get preserved now may be a good time.
(There may be additional restoration fees for badly damaged photos and to get prints made of the scans but the scan fee does include supply of the digitized image file with colour, contrast & brightness corrections and basic dust/spot removal).

Last year I was lucky enough to photograph Becci & David’s gorgeous North Norfolk wedding and this week I was lucky enough to photograph their even more gorgeous baby girl Amelie!
With family lifestyle portrait shoots I like to capture a snapshot in time and with really young families these are best done at the family home, I like to get lots of little details of the nursery and of course the tiny little toes and hands!
This shoot was particularly lovely as all of the proud grandparents came along too so we got a collection of shots of them all with Amelie. Below are some of my favourites from the shoot…
Ah, back to early August for Laura & Ashley (aka Woodsy)’s wedding in Brampton, Norfolk, a lot warmer than it is here right now!
They held their marquee wedding reception in Laura’s parents’ field, overlooking the pasture fields and tributaries of the River Bure. I started the day’s coverage with some shots in the marquee before wandering over to the house to get some shots of the preparations, it was all happening!
Back to the wonderful Norfolk Mead Hotel in Coltishall and once again the weather was lovely at this stunning Norfolk wedding venue!
After a few quick prep shots I met up with Nigel and his best man Greg as they welcomed the arriving guests with some time to spare for drinks in the sunshine.
I always enjoy photographing at The Norfolk Mead, the Garden Room where they hold the ceremony has great light from the huge windows and the room next door where they generally hold the wedding breakfast light & airy allowing for some great speech photos and shots of people enjoying each other’s company…
Wow, what a wedding this was!
Set amongst the wheat fields at Banham, Norfolk, Christina and David’s reception was a sumptuous affair yet retained a rustic Norfolk charm with many lovely details, typified by the below shot of a beautiful bucketful of flowers!
After a nose around the marquee to get some initial detail shots I headed off to find the girls getting ready at a house just down the road…
