The Duke of Kent visits Sheringham

The Duke of Kent visited Sheringham today to open the superb new town museum but before that he paid a visit to the lifeboat station where he was introduced to the many volunteers and watched a launch and recovery.

Below, Lifeboat Operations Manager Brian Farrow introduces the Duke to Senior Helmsman Tony Webster.

Below, the Duke meets the crew who will be launching the boat.

Below, Tony explains the launch and recovery procedures to the Duke.

Below, Margot tries the hat on for size.

Below, after the lifeboat station the Duke moved on to the new Sheringham museum - ‘The Mo’ - named after the old bandstand area on which it is now sited.  The museum really is incredible, the detail and thought that has gone into putting together the displays is superb.

The museum officially opens on Monday 29th March at 10am - who will be the first paying customer through the door?!  I’ll be there to photograph them whoever they may be!

Below, one of the museum’s directors Tony Sadler gives a speech.

Family holiday 2010 - Lanzarote

Apologies for all the delayed email replies and answerphone responses but we’re now back in Brrrrritain and I’m all caught up after ten lovely days in Lanzarote.   This was our first visit to the Canary Islands but certainly won’t be our last, what a beautiful place.  Lanzagrotty it ain’t.

We stayed near Playa Blanca, most days were around 30 degrees, some slight breeze but most of it was coming off the Sahara so was warm.

Below, the Iberostar Papagayo - our hotel, I can highly recommend it - and the children went crazy for the Kids Club & Mini Disco - Chu Chu Ua dance anyone?!

Below, the girls get stuck into a good book.

Below, the view East from one of the bays by Papagayo beach, tastefully avoiding any sight of the nudists on the beach next door!

The below shot isn’t of a particularly nice beach but I like the blue doors of the fisherman’s huts on the right and those skies were amazing - a real clarity of light over there.

Below, the children were fascinated by this sculpture….for all the wrong reasons!

Pete Waterman opens the new rail crossing at Sheringham

Today was a big day for Sheringham, when, after 46 years, the North Norfolk Railway line was officially rejoined to the BR main line.  The occasion was marked by an opening by famous rail enthusiast Pete Waterman and the arrival of steam loco ‘Oliver Cromwell’ from Kings Cross.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people gather for a single event in Sheringham like this before, there were at least a couple of thousand there today I reckon.

Pete Waterman couldn’t hang around too long after the opening as he’s sorting out England’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest with a live TV show tomorrow, good luck with that!

Below, the moment ‘Oliver Cromwell’ broke through the banner…

Below, this lad was very sooty and as Pete Waterman observed, he’d either been stoking the engine or had his head out of the window all the way from London.  Pretty sure I saw him picking bugs from his teeth so probably the latter!

Below, the ‘Oliver Cromwell’ had 250 paying guests on board travelling from Kings Cross, London through Sheringham to Holt and then back again.  Not sure how many of the guests were local to the area but a few seemed to recognise people in the crowds at Sheringham (although I’m pretty sure this lady was waving at Pete Waterman!)

Vicky & Dan - a pre-wedding shoot at Cley

I arranged to meet Vicky & Dan at my favourite local pub (The Wiveton Bell - the food is amazing - Slow Roasted Pork belly, mmmmm) although we didn’t eat, we went through all the details of their wedding day before heading into the village of Cley-Next-The-Sea for their pre-wedding shoot.  I’ve shot plenty of weddings at the lovely Cley Mill before but not actually done a shoot wandering about the village and seeing what interesting shots we could find - there are loads of great little places for photos.

We started off at the mill, many thanks to Charlotte at Cley Mill for letting us nip up to the balcony for a few shots before heading into the village.

Below, I was going to bin this one originally but I quite like the bike coming past, wish it had been going in the other direction though, would have made it a bit better.
